Yellow-Footed Tortoise
The Yellow-Footed Tortoise (Chelonoidis denticulata) is a species native to South America, particularly found in the Amazon Basin and the Guiana Shield. Yellow-Footed Tortoises are medium to large-sized tortoises, with adults typically reaching lengths of 12 to 16 inches (30 to 40 centimeters) and weighing up to 35 pounds (16 kilograms). They have a dark brown to black shell with yellow markings on their scales, particularly noticeable on their legs, giving them their distinctive name. The underside of the shell is usually yellow or tan. They have sturdy limbs with thick, columnar legs adapted for walking on land.
Yellow-Footed Tortoises are known for their calm and docile nature. They tend to be relatively easygoing and can make good pets for those interested in keeping reptiles. While not particularly interactive like some other pets, they can become accustomed to their owners and may even recognize them over time.
